Born in Milan, she graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan under the teacher Giovanna Canetti. She has won numerous international competitions and, thanks to her exceptional vocal qualities, has launched an extraordinary career that has seen her perform in the most important theatres of the world. Since the early nineties she has proved to be one of the best interpreters of W.A. Mozart, obtaining in this repertoire a success with audiences and critics at the major theatres and festivals around the world.

Among his most important performances we mention LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Countess of Almaviva) in Ferrara, OTELLO (Desdemona) at the Salzburg Festival and at the Teatro Regio in Turin with Claudio Abbado, COSÌ FAN TUTTE (Fiordiligi) at the Staatsoper in Vienna and at the Ravenna Festival with Riccardo Muti, also performed at Covent Garden with Colin Davis.

She has sung DON GIOVANNI at the Salzburg Festival with Lorin Maazel, TURANDOT (Liù) at the Opéra Bastille with Georges Prêtre and in a tour with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Zubin Mehta. At the Metropolitan she was Desdemona in OTELLO with James Levine, a role she performed in Brussels (Pappano), Vienna, Nice, Florence (Mehta), and in which she made her debut in Munich, again under Mehta’s direction. She has sung DON GIOVANNI (Donna Anna) at Glyndebourne, at the Vienna Staatsoper and at the Metropolitan; the role of Elettra in IDOMENEO under the direction of Sir Charles Mackerras, Vitellia in LA CLEMENZA DI TITO (Colin Davis) and LUISA MILLER (Maurizio Benini) at the Royal Opera House. We must also remember her return to the Opéra National de Paris in SIMON BOCCANEGRA and OTELLO. At the Teatro alla Scala she sung Leonora in IL TROVATORE, Alice in FALSTAFF, Desdemona in OTELLO, La Contessa d’Almaviva in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Anaide in MOSES IN EGYPT, Suor Angelica in THE TRIPTYCH.

Her repertoire also includes IL FLAMINIO by Pergolesi, LA BOHÈME at the Vienna Staatsoper and the Met in New York, CARMEN at Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera, Donna Elvira in DON GIOVANNI, Sifare in MITRIDATE, RE DI PONTO in Turin and in Paris with Cristophe Rousset, Medora in IL CORSARO, Antonia in LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN, Alice in FALSTAFF in Rome with Daniele Gatti, in Florence with Pappano and at the Convent Garden with Haitink. She was Amelia in SIMON BOCCANEGRA, Marguerite in FAUST, LUISA MILLER and Elisabetta in DON CARLO, she debuted in Florence with Zubin Mehta and Liù in TURANDOT at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

Her concert performances were also brilliant and intense. She has collaborated with the most prestigious orchestras and with the greatest conductors in the world. Many are her interpretations of Verdi’s Requiem, performed under the direction of Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergiev, Gianandrea Noseda together with ensembles such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Chicago Sinphony, the Orchestra La Scala Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His repertoire also includes Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Mass in C minor K.427, Mozart’s David Penitent (London Symphony Orchestra/Colin Davis), Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Rossini’s Stabat Mater (Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly, Carlo Rizzi), Mahler’s Fourth Symphony (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra/Bernard Haitink), Mahler’s Second Symphony (Zubin Metha), Gounod’s Mors et Vita (Marcello Viotti).

She has performed THAÏS in Turin, Verdi’s Requiem conducted by M° Pappano at Covent Garden, COSÌ FAN TUTTE in Valencia and Vienna, FIGARO’S WEDDING in Madrid, at the Opéra National in Paris and at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, SIMON BOCCANEGRA conducted by James Levine in Boston and New York, CARMEN at the Metropolitan in New York, LUISA MILLER at the Zurich Opera, LA BOHÈME in Tokyo Yokoama on tour with the Teatro Regio of Turin. She has also sung SIMON BOCCANEGRA at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and in Barcelona, FALSTAFF and LA BOHÈME at the Zurich Opera and recently in DON GIOVANNI at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, in Washington and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan as well as ADRIANA LECOUVREUR at the Liceu di Barcelona, DON CARLO in New York and at the Teatro Regio in Turin, IL TABARRO in Verbier, the FALSTAFF at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires and in Berlin, LA BOHÈME and PAGLIACCI at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
